Red Lobster: A Restaurant Review by Danny and Ryan

Bob Evans - A Podcast by Christian

Plunked Review By:Kooper

Do you like or play baseball? If you do then this is the book for you.

First, lets talk about the great setting of a baseball field, Andys house, and at school. At the baseball field, during practice Jack was backing out of inside pitches and couldn't make even an Ok play. At Andys house Jack and Andy were supposed to be doing homework but, they turned on the kinect and accidently knocked down this Ireland glass that is a one of a kind. At school before the Rockies game Jack is talking about how bad Manny is going to pitch in the game. The next practice Manny gets so mad at Jack he hits him in the ribs with a pitch. As you can see if you like baseball then you will love the setting of this book.
Next, lets talk about the actualbaseball in the book, Manny has a meltdown, they play there first game rival, and Jack gets a game winning hit. During the Manny meltdown the secondary pitcher just does terrible and gets so mad that he hits 2 people. During the 1st game rival this is when Jack gets hit in the head with a pitch and it changes the story alot. During Jacks game winning hit Jack makes up is mind to play again and it was a good choice, he got a game winning hit. The baseball part of this book is very interesting. If you like interesting and baseball together then you will love the baseball part of this book.
Finally lets talk about the amazing action of Jack getting hit in the head, Jack missing a game over a fake injury, and Jack thinking about quitting the team. During Jack getting hit in the head this huge pitcher on the Haven Yankees hits him and may give him a minor concussion. During Jack missing a game because of a fake injury, Jack dives for a ball in practice and its looks like he could've sprained his wrist, but he doesn't and he acts like he's hurt because he's afraid he is going to get hit again. During Jack thinking about quitting the team, Jack is scared of getting hit by the ball so he is thinking about quitting baseball forever.
You can see that this is a fascinating book, with the great setting, amazing action, and the baseball. So, the next time you go to a book store buy the book Plunked.

A Very Good Restraunt Joe Bologna's By Katie

Pizza, pasta, and soup! That must be Joe Bologna's! My favorite place to eat and hopefully your's after this reveiw. The people that work there are hard working people. Their food and decor is amazing. The restaurant is in a old Kentucky church.

This is the front of the restaurant

The first example of why you should go to Joe Bologna's is that their service is amazing. The workers help you decide what to get on their menu. You don't have to wait for your drink to be filled. If they see it go down they come and fill it. After you are done with your food they get the plates and give you your check which is a low price.  As you can see the people are nice and helpful.

Another reason is their delicious food. One of my favorite meals are their hot wings. They are very good. They give you foot long bread sticks as you order. They also serve very good pizza. The dough is soft and warm and when you bite into it, it is full of flavor with sauces and pepper. They also serve pasta that has amazing tomato sauce and cheese. So if you don't try something new, you will not like it.

This is one of thier amazing pizzas

Finally, they have outstanding decor and location! They are in downtown Lexington. They are in a old church that still has it's original stain glass windows. They have a indoor deck for more seating areas. It is also very large and you feel like you are at home.

As you can see, they have amazing food, service, and decor. So I hope your next restaurant choice will be Joe Bologna's. You will be glad you chose this restaurant.

What's Your Opinion?

What's your favorite restaurant? Have you ever thought about the reasons why you love this place? What about your favorite book or book series? What made you keep turning the pages? These are the types of questions our fifth grade writers pondered as they worked through their first writing project.

During the past month and a half, our fifth grade writers have been working on opinion writing projects. As part of our state standards, students should be able to share and support their opinions of texts and other topics. Students in Mrs. Sowers' writing classes have been doing just that! By writing either a book review or a restaurant review, students shared their opinions and supported those opinions with strong reasons.

To guide students through the process of developing their ideas for this project, Mrs. Sowers has worked with students on idea development, organization, sentence structure, and word choice through mini-lessons. After each mini-lesson, students headed to writers' workshop to write. At the end of workshop time, students shared with their friends the writing they worked on during workshop.

As all writers do, students worked through the writing process for this project. Students went through the following steps throughout this project:

        The Writing Process
              1. Prewriting
              2. Drafting
              3. Revising
              4. Editing
              5. Publishing
              6. Reflecting

Not only did students publish a writing piece, but each student was to have a hand in the creation of a technology project for publishing as well. Some of the media may have included: podcasts, blog posts, Windows Movie Maker, Photo Story 3, and Microsoft PowerPoint. Students gathered information, photographs, and research about their topics to create their media presentations. Each student learned about technology through this process and how to publish writing in a new and creative way.

As you will see, there was a great deal of time and effort behind these writing projects. Each child worked diligently to complete their writing piece and technology project through collaboration with teachers and peers. Students have taken great pride in their creations and would like to share them with an audience. Thank you for taking the time to visit the blog to see what they have done. Mrs. Sowers hopes you will enjoy the final products as much as she has enjoyed assisting students through this process. Who knows. . . Maybe as a result of their hard work you will be influenced to pick up a good book or visit a new restaurant!  Happy reading, listening, and viewing!
